Annemie Bogaerts

Mijn beeldtaal is overwegend abstract.

In my work - prints, objects and installations - I make use of various disciplines, techniques, and materials. My visual imagery is predominantly abstract.

The installations are generally monumental. The design is closely related to my graphic work.

The points of departure in my work are the line, colour, composition, and structure of the material.

Working in situ constitutes an ongoing process of making decisions in order to achieve an optimal interaction with the space. I aim to influence the atmosphere and the character of the space by either enhancing or alienating it.

The installations are made of natural materials: seeds, grains, sand. The material derives a unique appearance through the quantity and the context in which it is used. Confronted with a velvety carpet, the spectator questions the nature of the material and the method of structuring -  Die Sinne taüschen nie und zeigen nie richtig (Ernst Mach).

Objects and graphic art works are integrated into some of the installations.

The construction of the installations, the intense commitment, and the registration of the work process are important aspects. The installations are transitory; they remain preserved in a wide range of art documentation and in the memory of the spectator.

In my graphic work, mainly lithography, the experimental, the investigation within the image formation, plays a major role. I make use of digital and transfer techniques combined with drawing and painting directly on a stone.

I draw inspiration from the materials (for example various types of paper) but also from the work process itself. This takes place in a very associative manner.

One of my work methods is doubling graphic images, which involves printing various images on various paper types, including Japanese paper. The doubling of images creates the suggestion of textiles. I also use this technique to create small objects.

My spatial work consists of objects made of bronze, wood, and other natural materials. I remove natural, organic materials from their original environment and put them together in a composition / assemblage. This process is often the starting point for creating objects in bronze.

My bronze objects are created through various casting methods (ceramic shell, cire perdue, vacuum casting), patinating techniques, and thermal spraying. The treatment of the skin of bronze plays an important role in this.
